How to Have a Successful Website
By Leif Bryan
Websites are booming all over the place, but at the same time websites are failing. It’s not because the content was bad. It might be a great site that is very flashy or informative. The reality of the matter is that it failed to capture the attention of their audience. While it is not easy to get a following for your website, there are some things you can do to increase the possibilities that your website will succeed.
For one thing, carefully decide on the topic of your website. Subject matters that are too broad tend not to give attention to details and may lack the information needed to hold the interest of readers. Topics that are too pointed will get a following only out specific members of your possible audience.
Another thing, make sure the website is put together very well. Nothing is more frustrating than a website that is sloppy and disorganized. Since the intended purpose of your website is to keep people coming, make your website user friendly. Simple navigation, no pop-up banners, no page jumping, misspelling and grammar mistakes, scrolling marquees or text, or anything else that can appear tacky or sloppy.
You could provide something complimentary to your visitors. Perhaps you can give them a discount for your services or something free such as downloads. In terms of free stuff, you do not have to provide these things out of your pocket. There are other successful websites that offer free stuff at no cost to you.
Also, get your audience involved in your website. Discussion boards, forums, and mailing lists makes the user feel welcomed and they are guaranteed to come back to your website. In fact, they might bookmark your page with the purpose of coming back.
Finally, market your website. This is not as easy as it sounds, but it works to your advantage. Start off by sending emails to your friends and co-workers about your website and encourage them to forward it. Leave your link in message boards and discussion forums. Add meta tags that will make your page pop up in Google. Just remember, you want to do whatever it legally takes to make people go to your website.
Following these five steps does not guarantee that your website will soar to the top. However, it can guarantee better results if you take time to research, prepare, and market. There are many success stories of web startups. You could be included among them.
